Vertaling van 'The Perils Of Certain English Prisoners' (1857) het boek is in samenwerking met Wilkie Collins geschreven. Het verhaal speelt zich af in Midden-Amerika (de muskietenkust) maar is gebaseerd op het moedige gedrag van Britse vrouwen en kinderen gedurende de revolte in India uit het jaar 1857.
