"Ames d'Occident" by Anatole Le Braz is a collection of short stories written in the late 19th century. Set in rural Brittany, it portrays village life, belief, and custom with a blend of humor, tenderness, and folkloric intensity. The opening tales introduce an eccentric “innocent” named Ervoanic Prigent and, later, a proud young sabot-maker, a stern forest guard, and a devoted mayor, framing intimate human dramas against the sea- and forest-swept Breton landscape.
