Granite rock in La Digue Island at sunset, Seychelles. This large granite boulder is composed predominantly of quartz, feldspar, and mica. The rock originated from the slow crystallization of magma beneath the Earth's surface and was later exposed by uplift and erosion. Its rounded, smoothed form results from long-term mechanical weathering and marine abrasion, including wave impact, sand scouring, and salt weathering, which progressively shape and polish the granite surface.
