Blackstripe cardinalfish ( Ostorhinchus nigrofasciatus ), Red Sea, Egypt. They are predominantly found in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. They reach a length of about 8–10 centimetres (3.1–3.9 in) and are primarily nocturnal foragers, mainly feeding on small zooplankton, larval fish, and invertebrates. After mating, females will brood the young in their mouths until they are ready to be released into the water, ensuring a higher survival rate against predators. Note: there are no FPs on Commons of this species.
